YVES SAINT LAURENT – Touche Eclat Review & Swatch (2.5)

Price: $50 CAD
Size: 0.1 Oz
Shade: 2.5 Luminous Vanilla

Not sure why it has taken me so long to get around to this product because I have repurchased it a couple of times. It even has a place in my ‘daily’ makeup routine. So here it is – better late than never !

PACKAGING

I will first start with the aesthetics of the packaging– the luminizer comes in a gold, hard plastic (not sure) pen, which feels and looks luxurious as all YSL products do. The weight is not quite has heavy as I would wish but that is just me being picky. Functionality wise the product is dispensed through clicking the button and product gets pushed through the brush applicator. This is the part of the product which I have a love hate relationship with. I love it because 1 – it keeps the product sanitary and 2 – it keeps you from applying too much at once. However, I dislike the fact that it is hard to tell whether I have fully finished the product or not. Being cheap I would like to have the possibility of opening it up and grabbing out every last bit since there is not a lot and it is $50. Overall, the look and feel of the product are great and travel friendly – however the packaging makes it a little hard to tell when you have finished the product.

PRODUCT

I will first explain the product before breaking it down because I have seen many people use it ‘incorrectly.’ The Touche Eclat often gets misused as a concealer and it is not thick enough to be so. The Touche Eclat is a ‘luminizer’ – luminizers are more like highlighters than they are concealers. They will not give you coverage and instead is meant to be used on top of concealed areas to diffuse light a certain way and brighten your complexion. As for the Touche Eclat it is a brightening fluid that helps to give your face, lift and dimension. The product is thin and light weight which makes blending over other products easy and comfortable to wear. The luminizer does not have any shimmer or glitters giving you a natural looking brightening affect – especially to your under eye area. It sets slightly matte and lasts a full day (especially if set with powder). It also does not crease near the end of the day or become oily and greasy. Shade wise the Touche Eclat shades are not well represented on the sephora website and I recommend that you swatch them in stores. The product has a decent availability in shades and come in different undertones to match different skin types. I use the shade 2.5 which is ‘luminous vanilla’ which is a light tone with slightly peachish yellow undertones and this matches my skin well. Overall, it is a great product that will give a natural brightening affect to the skin without looking too drastic. Application is quick and easy and blending flawlessly (if the right shade is chosen). It also wears well throughout the day and I have not had any issues with it creasing or melting off my face (even through my travels in humid countries). It is definitely a great product however, I do wish it came with a little more product – as one does not last you a very long time (so use a light hand and do not use it like a concealer it will not give you much coverage). If you can – try to wait for the annual Sephora 20% off – I usually stock up a couple during that time.

*tip: use this as your last step before powder in your foundation routine – only a bit is needed to brighten out your skin if you have concealed your under eyes well. I use roughly one click each time for both eyes. I usually apply it to areas that I want to highlight (ie. under eyes and high points of my face)
